Hello and welcome.
There are no recorded overdates for 1880 British halfcrowns. It is also highly, highly unlikely that the "1" is the victim of an overdate, since to the best of my knowledge the first two digits "18" were placed on the master die, and not added later in the hubbing process.
So while it is excessively improbable that you actually have an overdate, based on your description. we can't tell for sure what you do have until and unless we see some pics. It's most likely just some random post-mint damage that happens to kind-of look like a numeral, since that's the most likely cause of a "false overdate". It might be a minor variety like a die chip or a die clash, but without pics it's impossible to give an opinion.

Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis
