I see on Amazon you can buy coin magnifiers for as cheap as $50. Are they worth it? When a coin is "examined", at what magnification does an appraiser look? Key is good lighting and a functional stand. I prefer them to traditional magnifying glasses. High magnification is fun but it does not help much in grading. I use mine to see details I used to be able to see with bare eyes. Report this Post to the Staff
John1 Moderator United States 56855 Posts	Posted 07/04/2023 2:16 pm If you buy that type of scope,make sure to use a memory card in it and not just take photos of the screen and post them. Appraisers use a 5x or 10 Jewlers loupe. You should use a hand held loupe with a 10x power. A Hastings triplet is best but a regular doublet is fine.
