PCGS - Half Dismes are American icons. With the Mint still under construction in 1792, these coins were produced on a press in a saw maker's cellar. That makes this PCGS MS66 example one of the first U.S. coins ever. Five cents by denomination, worth about $800,000 today, per PCGS Price Guide.
The Half Disme is my dream coin, as a type collector it is the 'biggie', the centerpiece of any type collection, the alpha and omega if you will. Every now and then a rough one comes thru the auctions and I perk up, like here is a mangled up thing that came up a few months ago and hammered at $24K, and I 'just can't', but maybe someday...
