Hello everyone. One of my friends wonder where does the striations(scratches) on the coin come from. He said he opened it up from coin roll.

The latest Coin World has an article that appears to address just that sort of thing.
In the article it's described as coins being struck from damaged dies.
And apparently the damage progresses while the dies are continually used.
