Hello,
I was looking though my mint sets and saw this black substance on the obverse of the 2015 P Homestead quarter. Since it's still sealed, it's difficult to get a picture without glare. I can't quite make out what the black stuff is on the obverse near Washington's face. I saw a video a couple of months back that talked about grease from the mint still on a coin and that it is black but I'm not sure if this is that. Any ideas what this could be? Do you think the coin is pretty much only worth face value now?

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

It's so big - very distracting. I know there are errors in mint sets but this seems so obvious I can't believe it made it into the sealed set. The set also has a very cool cent that has what looks like tiny strike through fissures on the reverse of the cent. I'll post it next. Maybe the whole set is just one giant mistake.

@ MintPenny:

It is not ERROR. You has wrong definition of a Mint Error.
Your coin has environment toning. Just this the set was in the wrong environment or exposed over humidity to UV.

Mint ERROR mean the bombinated action of the mechanical production and Human Error.

It looks like that area was exposed to high heat.
