Not sure what you mean by throwing you a bone... we don't decide what you have, we just tell you what it already was. In this case, I'm afraid it's just a quarter with a scratch on the reverse.

There's a "crack" from the "e" down through the peach

Yes, the "crack" is just a scratch, unfortunately.

Good advice, I picked up 200 paper cups today; sort tomorrow. Pretty excited, even after the initial disappointments. Learning.

Can't second Hondo/Earle's point emphatically enough. Searching coins for errors without knowing what errors look like is a waste of time. What I found the most useful when I was starting was to just lurk on this forum and look at the coins posted and see what experts had to say about them. Then, when you see one that's positively IDed as an error, look up that error on error-ref.com and read more about it. Also familiarize yourself with the various variety databases like Variety Vista, Wexler's die varieties, and coppercoins.

Just a note: errors and varieties are two different things as well as simple damage. Research and study will be a requirement. Good luck to you.

With Hondo/Earle42.

I always thought that if when people sign up to CCF. Maybe post something like what Hondo did of Earle42 wisdom. Maybe have it a requirement for them to read by acknowledging that they read it at least.
I think it would be helpful in the long run.
