Curious what you guys think this would grade at. Going to send it off for grading so eventually it will be a Guess the Grade when I post the results.

VF-20. It has EF sharpness but too much chatter for that grade.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

This feels like a coin that could use an Acetone bath but I'm afraid I'm going to ruin its chance at grading straight if I do it.

The coin looks like it may have some problems, assuming it straight grades my guess would be VF30.

It looks corroded to my eye. VF range grade.

I'm with coinfrog on this one. VF35.
not sure what happened to it over its life. I think there are quite a few marks on this coin on both sides. if you are planning to send it in I might be inclined not to touch it. anything you do could enhance some of them.
if you feel you need to then nothing other than acetone. using verdicare would clean it up however it would show every little mark on this coin. its a toss-up. will the eye appeal lower the value as is or will cleaning it up reduce the value by enhancing all the marks. tough call. I dont see any signs of corrosion anywhere on this coin.

I don't think it is corroded. Here are a couple of pics in a more natural light and color. The high intensity light and me increasing the sharpness seems to have given the coin more of a porous and dark look than it really has.

Quote: Better pictures of obverse, VF-30. Thanks for looking again Thad. Do you think I just give it a quick Acetone dip before grading or just keep it natural? Also I accidentally uploaded two obverse pics so I just edited it to include the natural light reverse pic.

Acetone couldn't hurt. Sticking with VF-35.

if the newer pictures are more representative, I agree not corroded
