Picked this up in an auction lot.
The date wasn't a problem. (Thanks to the "Creo Unity time Machine")
http://creounity.com/apps/time_mach....php&lang=en

Nationality sort of was a struggle until I stumbled onto images of the "tougra" on some coins. (a sultans "signature" that was different for each ruler).
22.94 grams
33.8 mm
Silver I think.
Reeded edge

I'm needing some guidance on matching it up with some images of actual coins.
(I had some luck with Numista)

I'm not sure if this is Abdulmecid (Constantinople) or another.
Thanks in advance.

This is an excellent example of the rule of thumb: a toughra is usually a sign that it's an Ottoman coin; "usually", but not always. In this case, it isn't. That seal on the reverse, with the mosque, is the seal of Afghanistan. More specifically, a 2˝ rupee. NGC link.

You do have to be careful when dating Iranian and Afghanistan coins; they had the "year 1300" twice, in AD 1883 and again in AD 1921, due to a calendar reform. This coin is actually from the second (SH) calendar, so it's actually dated AD 1921.

@pete, this coin would have been a good target for the coinoscope app, with the Afghan 2.5 Rupee being its second guess (behind the 5 Rupee). I applaud your efforts to try to figure this out though.

SAP and Spence. Fantastic. Thank you both.
Thanks so much for this info.

Afganistan it is!
(not the Ottoman Empire)

I'll add this info to the flip and check out that app.

(Should I remove the image where I identified the parts incorrectly or leave it as a lesson for everyone?)

We prefer it that people don't delete old information, especially in "ID Required" threads. The thread becomes much more educational for later viewers.

Thank you. It was educational for me. I did not know of the calendar reform.

And thanks for this also since I couldn't figure out what to call the seal.
Typing "building" or "Mosque" into the search bar didn't help.

So the second calendar reform is the Solar Hejera?

EDIT: Do you think adding the correct coin to the title is a good idea?
EDIT#2- I've added the "coinoscope app" to my phone. Thanks so much for that Spence.
