This 1889 Cent might still have the most detail under the dirt and tarnish compared to the 20 or so Indian Heads I have from 1862 to 1907. There are headdress feathers and other detail coming through.

Should it be cleaned? My intention is to sell it but I don't want to devalue it. Any ideas what it is worth?

Thanks!

Appears badly corroded. Normally I don't recommend cleaning coins, but in this case you could hardly make it worth less than it already is.

I hope you don't have high hopes in a sales price. This coin is worth less than $1, and if you clean it, it will still be worth less than $1.

Thank you for the advice RedRaider and Coinfrog.

I have seen a few Indian Heads at Heritage up for auction that have been harshly cleaned and disclose it up front listed for around $200 $300. Others that have not been cleaned and in pretty worn out condition starting bids are around $400. Not saying I would get anything for this coin, it does look pitted and that's a shame because it could've been a nice coin if it didn't look retrieved from a wishing fountain. I have others I think that would do well and see what the auction house I bring the collection to would do with this one. The Coin World is mixed with so much varying information to navigate. I'm working through it. I appreciate your replies.
