There seems to be something lacking in the Canadain NCLT market recently. There is no "buzz" or excitement regarding this years issues. It is the same themes over and over again. Another Maple Leaf, another eagle, grizzlie bears. And the RCMP yet again, never a popular subject.
There are have been very few sell outs in the overall coin market ( RCM and other dealers). A few gold low mintage coins have sold.out. The only coins sold out everywhere is the Pysanka, the St .Edwards coin, and the Maple Leaf high relief coin. The lack of sell outs may be due to mintage as well. The RCM has increased mintage for all coins this year.
The RCM market needs a boost. Which should come with the apearance of King Charles on the obverse. Sorry, I do not count the King Charles Cypher coin as the true first King Charles coin, especially with QEII still on the obverse. I am sure lot of coin collectors are holding out until KIng Charles appear.
The problem is QEII died almost a year ago yet her coins are still being marketing. Like the Cypher coin with 15,000 mintage! Obviously the QEII coins have been planned for a long time but perhaps the mint should be more flexible with their releases.
While I agree the NCLT market is in the doldrums, I rhink its issues are larger than what a change in monarch portraits can solve.
I agree that the switch to Charles' portrait will very likely boost the market, but, IMO, it will only be a temporary thing unless other issues are addressed at the same time. The Mint has created the poor situation with too many issues, too many gimmicks and too few meaningful designs.
The problems can be fixed, but the Mint needs to better understand the collecting interests of its core customer base and not continue to chase after short-term collectors with novelty issues. It costs less to retain customers vs. constantly attract new ones - the Mint has lost sight of that over the last decade.

For me this had a problem. The moment Mint started to release what I thought to be great (never released designs, circulation coins on 38mm planchet etc), I already felt 'overfed' with amount of releases and tried not to buy a thing.
Btw, yesterday midnight EST , the TSC release, probably by mistake the mail with new release, however links haven't led to new coins on their site. The First Nations coin was designed very well, priced CAD 104.95. However, not many people will be interested.

What a joy to spot this splendid creature! Delicate and graceful, the gorgeous monarch butterfly flits from one plant to the next, dancing merrily through the sky in search of the perfect flower — like the standout bloom on this coin's interactive reverse. A monarch butterfly may travel up to 5,000 kilometres during its two-way migration, an astounding feat for one so small and fragile! It truly is a wonder to observe, both in nature and on this fine silver movement coin, as it selects one special flower out of the millions it has passed over.
THIRD $100 pure gold Lunar Year coin! The sole mythical creature in the Chinese Zodiac, the indomitable Dragon is the symbol of great power, fortune, success and strength. People born in the Year of the Dragon are natural leaders known for their tenacity and courage, and under the auspicious influence of the Wood Dragon, 2024 brings the promise of progress, positivity and prosperity.
One of the most recognizable symbols of a historic reign, the Royal Cypher of Queen Elizabeth II was the monarch's identifier, and most Canadians are used to seeing it imprinted in the insignia of orders, decorations, medals and badges. The personal device of Queen Elizabeth II was synonymous with the Crown and served as a symbol of Sovereignty in Canada for 70 years. It has been re-created and forever preserved on this black rhodium plated 99.99% pure silver tribute to Queen Elizabeth II, the keeper of continuity who also advanced the monarchy into the modern age.
