2021 Silver Proof Set Lincoln :

2021-Silver-Proof-Set-Lincoln-:--This-Cent-Makes-No-Sense

Set is stored in a cool, dry location. The coin remains in the USM holder. Other coins in the holder look fine.

I inspect USM items upon arrival; pretty sure I did so with this set. Would have returned it if the cent had defects.

What's the proper description / terminology to describe this ? Is this also seen in circulation coins ?

Thanks

What does the reverse look like? Can we see the entire holder?
To me, this looks like linear plating issues and the Zinc is starting the rot process.

It looks like a fingerprint or palmprint to me.

Somewhere between the press and sealing the holder a technician made contact with surface of the coin. The coin changed color by reacting to the salts and acids that were deposited there, over the last couple of years, resulting in the dark lines and smudges seen here.

I'm sure you did check the coins when you got them. The smudge was there, but the copper hadn't reacted to it. The mint holder are not airtight.

It does look like a fingerprint or some kind of oily smudge/smear? It must have been clear when you first received the set and in time is turning darker.

No apology necessary. It is a grey area.

Appears to have toned, OGP is not airtight at all. Store these sets in a heavy ziplock bag with a desiccant pack and a sacrificial cent laying open in the bag.
