I think you might be a little confused over the definition of 'red' wheaties.

Hmmm, those are not red Wheats as they are usually referred. Those are merely red colored from environmental exposure. Red Wheaties are ones that appear as they came from the Mint- full blazing copper color- so obviously any red Wheat will be high AU-MS. Of course, the red might be a bit of a misnomer since it is actually more of an orange-red copper color but the name has stuck over the years.

Sorry for the confusion. When I mentioned the "Reds" in the original thread ( https://goccf.com/t/45049) I was referring to the coloring of some of the cents. I found them interesting because some were red, some deep brown and some even black. It never crossed my mind that that would be mistaken for "Mint-Condition" coins. I apologize for using incorrect terminology.

No need to apologize, ikandiggit, it was an honest mistake.

Yea....and cool coins! When I first started collecting I called these "red" too! No kidding! LOL They are indeed RED, I know exactly what you mean. There's a very distinct red color, almost looks like nail polish, on the surfaces. Nobody but you and I probably care about this type of toning, but I SAVE these because they are actually fairly rare and definately unique.

Alright, BadThad! . I really like these as well as the black ones. I think it would be kinda cool to have a set of red ones and a set of black ones. I'd put this together from searching the wheat bins at shows and through bulk buys. Far cheaper than trying to put together a set of AU/BU or MS wheats and since I'm only collecting Lincolns for pure enjoyment and not for investment I'm not too concerned about condition as long as they're deep red or black. I've ordered another 2500 Wheats that I'll be getting on the 12th of April from my dealer/friend. They are part of the same batch that I got these from and hopefully I'll get a few more that I add to my collection.

If you enjoy them, that's the main thing! Is that lamination on the 1920 (I think that says 1920)? Kinda looks like someone performed brain surgery on poor Lincoln!

All of these "red" and "black" cents are rather cool! Lots of character.
