The MM is suspect, I cannot confirm the coin. Even if the coin has had an old cleaning, it's worth sending in to a TPG for authentication.

I think it is genuine. the coin has taken some hits, including the date and mint mark area. The photograph's lighting can make things appear to be the wrong shape.

Not sure why there us any question of sending this in. It's an S VDB. Even in just Good it's worth grading. If it's not an obvious fake, which this is not, send it in. Every time. I wouldnhave had that off to ANACS right away.

If I were confident it was legitimate, I would not send it in because it would end up in my Dansco. That being said, one could argue submission is worth it if only for the expert opinion.

Quote: Crack em out and tape the label from the slab on the inside front cover. Thats what I do. :) Oh, I have no problem cracking! I have done that three times now! http://goccf.com/t/431501http://goccf.com/t/82365&whichpage=18#3725730http://goccf.com/t/32990&whichpage=503#3775085To be clear for this topic, I am saying that if I somehow acquired a raw 1909-S VDB cent and I was highly confident it was legitimate, it would go right into the Dansco. There would be no need for me to send it in for another opinion. With that being said, I am quite confident that filling this hole will require some shattered plastic...

If it were me I would have already sent that off to ANACS first (cost thing). Like others have said its not an obvious fake, so why not send it. Even if it comes back as details its still a big boy coin.

I just did my first submission to ANACS at the FUN Show in Florida, and it was pretty simple. I submitted 13 of my "expensive big/boy" coins to mainly have them authenticated and to make have them slabbed for protection. I really would have rather done NGC but the cost is just not worth it in my opinion. I think ANACS is just as good at NGC or PCGS but they dont play the political game. I've seen it first hand with a friend thats a dealer and has sent to all three over the year. Also if you send them in at a show then its even cheaper and dont have to pay for shipping both ways only one way
