Good afternoon! I came across this Jefferson nickel and noticed on the rim raised areas. Please see pics to get a better description. What type of error would this be called.

*** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark to Title. It's very important to have in the title. *** Thank you for your input!!

looks like it's in a bezel with a loop for attaching to a chain. OR, it's been "spooned" and someone soldered on a loop (damaged)

It looks like the coin was used in some type of jewelry that was partially removed.

@Dearborn Embezzeled?

If you were embezzling nickels would take a long time before you got rich, wouldn't it? I mean Henning counterfeited hundreds of thousands of nickels, but it didn't really pay off for him. Bernie Madoff embezzled $50 billion. If he had to do it one nickel at a time, it would have taken forever!
ANA ID: 3203813 - CONECA ID: N-5637 Clean a coin that may be worth collecting? Please DON'T! When in doubt, leave it dirty!!

It's not an error but damage. Folks are correct that this coin was once encased in a bezel.

@Dearborn - lol at Embezzled!
