The holder of this "snorter" marked crossing the intersection of the IDL & the equator on July 11, 1943, on the obverse. Recrossing the same point in the Central Pacific on December 29, 1943, is noted on the reverse. Perhaps this sailor (or Marine) was assigned to a ship involved in the Gilbert and Marshall Islands campaign. . .

Only two signatures that I can positively identify.

Raymond J Reddick (second from right) was a Carpenter that was assigned to the USS Whitney immediately prior to the dates on this note.

1st Lt. William H. Kay USMC (just to the right of Washington) was assigned to an air defense unit (the 2nd Airdrome Battalion) at this time.

Follow-Up:

Received a reply from the administrator of the shortsnorter.org web site:

Thanks for the email and sharing the scans of that real interesting snorter. It's good to hear folks are discussing these artifacts.

Unfortunately I am not updating the website due to technology issues.

Have a great week.

Regards,
Tom Sparks
