I was just trolling ebay this evening, and spotted this "1865 dollar" on sale! I don't know if there are any threads like this out there, though it might be helpful to post fraudulent postings on ebay to assist new and experienced coin collectors in identifying fraudulent listings.

So what is wrong with this posting?

1. Dollars minted in 1865 were Seated Liberty dollars, and nothing with George Washington. Doing your research about an item is probably the most important thing of all. Know what you are buying.
2. When a seller has bad photos, they MAY be trying to hide something/prevent you from examining things closely.
3. You may want to be careful when buying high value items from new sellers. It is always a good idea to get more information from the seller about the item, and ask about a return policy.
4. When you have all of the above in one listing... Stay AWAY and REPORT IT!

Been in contact with the seller trying to get them to remove the listings. I don't think they know that the coins they have listed are fakes so I have sent a few e-mails stating such.

Hopefully they'll come here to learn and join us

That auction was already pulled by the time I received this reply; he's now NARU.

For all I know, that could have been a Washington quarter, though the image was too blurry to make any determination. That would explain why it was in circulation.

I invite everyone to post pics of auctions and the reasons why the listings are fraudulent, every saturday or sunday night.

Be sure to post pics or else no one will know what you are posting about after the auction ends, or is the case that an auction is taken down.
