Interesting Coppers can still be found In the Wild - this time a 1796 Draped Bust Sheldon-105, a moderately rare 1796 Draped Bust at R-5-. Approximately 45-60 known. This is actually the second S-105 I have found which for a very scarce coin is a real surprise to say the least.

The coin is in low grade and with an obvious assortment of surface nicks and scuffs, but I am excited nevertheless because the majority of S-105s are in low grades, and/or show environmental damage. This one is not.

In spite of the circulation damage, this example has nice surfaces and is not corroded or pitted.

Ive been looking at pictures S-105s listed in the Condition Census for S-105 (thank you very much @westcoin !) and think, this coin might just squeeze in at the bottom of the CC for the variety.

As I said, nothing major but the kind of find which gets EAC collectors excited

Thanks.

@ panzaldi, most definitely this S-105 would land in a "details" holder if I were ever to submit her.

However, to an EAC collector the significance of an S-105 in this condition is certain to go beyond what a grading service may opine.
