A better reverse picture might help members contribute thoughts about authenticity - or perhaps whether the coin is a plated ancient. Seems like there might be a base metal core showing in spots.

Thanks for the better picture. The surface is odd and the coin could be a fouree (ancient plated coin). I'm hoping others chime in to offer thoughts.

The republic fourees I have seem blanks wrapped in silver before being struckt. A lot of silver wrapping the copper core. That is why some are found punched deep into to check for fakes.

This looks bathed in silver.
