As much as I want this to be a d over s, can't reasonably offer that thought. Maybe a punch through or just strange post mint damage. sort of cool looking though.

Appears the mint mark took a circulation hit.

By the way it is this mint mark, we can conclude sure it is from circulation. Orientation of MM it is the normal one and the hit spired do not fit with any RPM"s. So circulation damage.
