Last night I bought 2 rolls of dollar coins and there are 12 Sacagawea dollars. 3 2000-D, 4 2000-P, and 5 w/o dates and mintmarks.im starting out by checking out the 2000-p dollars. Unfortunately I didn't get any fancy feathers but sindid notice that 2 of the 4 have a slightly different finish. I took pictures but you can't really see the difference in them unless you turn the coins in the light. 2 of them have a slight reddish hue in spots. Is it likely that its discoloration from being in circulation? Thanks

Probably most likely toning from environmental factors.

to the CCF!

The finishes you describe make it sound like it's just toning, but we can't tell you for sure without seeing the images that do show the difference.

The 5 Sacagawea dollars that don't have dates on the obverse should have Edge Lettering. They moved the Date, Mint mark, E PLURIBUS UNUM to the edge of the coin in 2009, and added stars.

Also look for edge lettering that is 'Typewriter' doubled, overlapping and sometimes in both Position A and Position B (upside down to each other.)

Some Sacagawea dollars had the edge lettering for the Presidential dollar added in error. These have dates on both the obverse and the edge.

for a 2000-p, 2001-p or 2006-d In an attempt to prevent tarnishing, small numbers of Sacagawea dollars were immersed in a chemical bath that turned them a distinctive brown color. The 2000-P Sacagawea dollar pictured in this link was exposed to an experimental anti-tarnishing agent. Those have added value https://www.error-ref.com/experimen...awea_dollar/ and http://www.smalldollars.com/dollar/add002.html

Otherwise in general for similar coins that are not that, maybe toning or chemical alteration https://www.pcgs.com/news/color-of-...deeper-tones

Essentially there are apparently 2,500 of the 2001-p but only about 10 are also known on 2000-p. PCGS recognizes the 2001p and ANACS does, and places like great collections will both generally grade and then auction the coin and you can email them in advance before sending. However here we are just speculating that because these exist there is always a possibility of being one so worth to look into with people who have the knowledge to identify yes or no as I have never seen one of those yet in person, but normally otherwise its just some form of toning or chemical alteration 99% of the time.

Datadragon, thanks for sharing that, I haven't seen it anywhere else. I'm sure it's just toning because although they are a little darker, it's also like a rainbow around the edges when I turn them. I'm definitely making a note of it though, because they are out there somewhere, right?

Yes its most likely toning especially since its 2000-p where there are only 10 not 2001-p with 2500 known, but the difference between the finds of no value and some value is mainly knowledge and then luck to encounter something with that knowledge. So yes its always good to 'know' what might be worth looking into further as you did with the 1979 wide rim SBA. Usually I mention the book Strike It Rich as it contains plenty of things for someone to start to begin looking if they so desire but its not a get rich quick scheme for the majority. https://www.amazon.com/Strike-Rich-.../0593328604/
