Here is another 68 Shield I just obtained.

It has a very nice and clear RPD south and some cracks. I can't understand why the rim denticles, especially on the reverse, is unevenly worn. Could it have been struck off center?

Thanks

Very nice RPD! Maybe circulation wear worn down rim denticles?

Maybe a slightly misaligned die, but nothing too out of the ordinary in terms of the strike.

This RPD is listed as S2-3005 in Spindel's Shield nickel Viewer, it is also noted there to possibly cross to F-104.

The dentil phenomenon is common across many types. The entire coin will not be perfectly centered and struck evenly everytime.

Nice one. This is the rarer IIb reverse (Fletcher) or reverse of 1868, said to be only 10% of the mintage. This is easily identified by the top star pointing to the "S" in states. It points to the "E" in the reverse of 1867

All of the IIb reverses came from the same hub that gradually deteriorated during use. The IIb reverses com with anywhere from 0 to 6 broken letters. We know the all came from the same hub because the letters break in a specific sequence
