The '52' of '1852 appears to be in a smaller font to the '18'
There is an example of this coin on ebay-- [eBayItem]260366058437[/eBayItem]-the date is the same as mine but they are all in the same size font.
Is mine unusual or is this a common variation?

I don't have one in hand, but the date on the photo in my copy of The Charlton Standard Catalogue of Canadian Colonial Tokens looks to be the same. They don't have a great photo in the book though.

Hi Chequer--I'll post the link as the last one doesn't seem to work

[eBayItem]260366058437[/eBayItem]

Did you mean that the Charlton one is the same as mine or as the ebay one?

I find them very close, but there may be a difference. It's difficult with the difference in grades though. That one on ebay is from a dealer where I live ... very nice token. I do see what you're talking about though and it may very well be a variety, as the book I mentioned stated that minor varieties do exist, but they didn't price any varieties.

I'd hang on and see if there's someone around with a better knowledge of Colonials
