Is anyone aware of sites that show good illustrations of the different varieties of Canadian coins? I am especially interested in the 1974 Winnipeg Dollar varieties, and the 1968 dollar varieties. I recall visiting a site with about 15 varieties of the 1974 dollar, but I have misplaced its url.

Thanks a lot. It was the Ken Potter pages that I remembered.

Does anyone know similar information about the 1968 dollar varieties?

Wow. Thanks for the information. It is so useful to at least have a description. Thanks for your time, as well-it is valuable too.
Are these varieties illustrated anywhere that you know?

And one more question- what does the X or XX mean?

"what does the X or XX mean?"

Means nothing with the Arial font set used in the display - but it meant something with the Courier font set used to compose the message. It was to indicate whether or not the coin is PL or MS or both.

"Are these varieties illustrated anywhere that you know?"

Nope. One of the best ways to understand the 1968 dollar varieties is to buy 20 to 30 or more of them, and examine them.

Multi multi thanks for your help- one of the sets I was looking at is a VCR#11/DDR#11. There were 3 varieties in the last bunch of business strikes that I looked at, including one that was not listed, but similar to VCR#14/DDR#14. I have been looking through about 20 1968 dollars, and some PL Sets, and I am seeing varieties, but I am not sure what I am seeing yet- is it doubled water lines, or just doubling from die wear. Anyways, more study gives more information.
I did a review on ebay based on some of the things that I discovered on PL set contrasts- different types on the same coin, and different appearing contrast on dimes and another type on a few dollars. - I will do a posting soon, when I have this batch of sets checked out.
Once again, many thanks to all who posted- I really appreciate it. Hoppefully I can do the same for you sometime.
