Well, well, well! What treasure has this little old lady found again from cyber space? I couldn't believe my eyes when I started reading the posts and was excited for the first time in a long time!!

I am the Keeper of the Flame, hence the username of Flamekeeper. I am out in the forest as far as I can get and have to keep that wood stove going day and night during some months.

I am an Air Force Brat and started collecting awe inspiring coins when I was about 7 years old. I was broken hearted when I lost my whole collection in my 2nd housefire in 1990. I now keep certain items in a safety deposit box at the bank!!! I still miss my old collection and the memories that were attached to each coin!!!

For years after 2010 I chose to live without television, radio, telephone, internet, newspaper delivery or anything else that would break the tranquility of the silence around me. I glared at the refrigerator every time I heard it kick on!! It was after 2010 that I finally thought it had been long enough to where I could chance collecting again and I starting collecting coins, stamps and beautiful stones/rocks.

All of these pastimes were solitary endeavors so in a few short years I have been lucky to have a local Pawn Shop that also deals in coins and everything else under the sun. I have found some absolutely wonderful coins in that place. Plus the old guy who owns the place is a gem and I love going there just to talk to him!!!

I don't know what else to say except that I am old and that is okay with me. The only way not to get old is to die young and I never wanted to die young and miss a moment of glorious times with my 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grands. They are who I am collecting for. Not for my gain. I collect for MY pleasure and the satisfaction of finding a beautiful coin somewhere out of the way where I least expected to go.

Always smile and the world will smile with you! We are going to start having fun together...this internet is the best!!!

to the forum! Sorry for the earlier loss of your collection; many of us learned the hard way to properly protect our collections from fire, flood and theft (I lost my first collection in a home break-in back in the '80's).

I enjoyed your back story, thanks for sharing! And regarding your comments on getting old; I'm reminded of the saying "I don't like getting older, but it's sure better than the alternative...".
