The concavity does interesting things when light hits the coin at different angles. Were it actually spendable, the same 10 shilling coin in 1966 would have been valued at a scant 50p after decimalization; a small "value" for quite a large coin. In 2023, you'd need approximately £8.50 to have the same purchasing power that 50p did in 1971, based on some quick searching. By means of comparison the silver alone in the coin is worth £8.90, give or take, so at least the bullion value beat inflation!
