Opinions: Do you think it possible to break this coin out without damaging the coin?

Mike, this subject has come up before. Everyone who has has liberated a coin from lucite said that it was difficult, tedious, and not worth doing again.

I agree. I would keep this intact as a fun conversation piece.

If you need a 1904 for your collection there are easier ways to get one. Unless this is a 1904-S; but even then the aggressive cleaning is going to mute its value.

Thanks for the input. The item was part of a 5.6lb, mixed denom bag of coins auction. If the price was near an estimate of face value (+10 or 20%) it might be fun to hunt the cache for interesting coins. If the breakout could succeed, that would definitely adjust the bidding. Will pass on bidding.

This guy posted a video on removing a really nice 1882-O Morgan from lucite / acrylic. Essentially, he is not a "shop guy", as virtually ever tool and the vise he used were not appropriate for the task. And it seems he tried to do it quickly. The results are predictable.
Acrylic can be dissolved with solvents, but the amount needed would probably exceed the value of the entrapped coin, not to mention the issue of disposing of the mess in a responsible way.

I agree, just leave it the way it is.
