Have several sets of coins that I was left in a will. One is the St. Gaudens Liberty Miniatures. They are a mini $20. How do you find their worth?

Also have a1995/1996 Atlanta Centennial Olympic Gamse set that is in a real nice wooden case. Has 32 coins in all. There are two trays of coins within the box, and it includes a key.

Can anyone help me determine their worth? I know nothing about coins, as I'm not a colletor.

Thanks

The miniature Saint-Gaudens coins aren't official coins - they're reproductions, made for jewellery purposes. Most I've seen were marketed at 8 carat gold, so they're not worthless, but we're not talking about a great deal of gold in them - probably less than $10 worth.

As for the set, I assume it's the one listed in the RedBook as the 32-coin one-of-each proof and Unc set in cherrywood box; this is listed at $9000.

Sap - thanks. What's the RedBook you're referring to? Again, keep in mind this whole coin thing is new to me. My father has always bought us those yearly proof sets through the US Mint. Can this RedBook be boughten by the average person, or is it something that is only available to coin dealers?

The standard catalogue for American coins is officially known as "A Guide to United States coins" by R.S. Yeoman. It's been around since 1947 and it's always had a red cover, hence it's nickname. Example on Amazon. Most coin dealers sell them, though right now they might have sold out of the 2009 edition; the 2010 edition of the catalogue is due out shortly, I believe.

If you're at all interested in collecting U.S. coins, a RedBook is essential reading.

I concur with Sap

that 1996 Olympics Set is quite a spectacular display, some of the coins in it have very low mintages
There is currently only one set listed on ebay and the http://cgi.ebay.com/1995-1996-Atlan...ld_W0QQitemZ230333671569QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCoins_US_Individual?hash=item230333671569&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66:2%7C65:13%7C39:1%7C240:1318
