The uniface double struck coins can look pretty cool, but in general I prefer coins that are bi-facial. The difference is whether an unstruck planchet has been fed, or not, into the chamber when this coin was struck. 199X Lincoln Memorial cent mint error - double struck uniface

Hey Dearborn. Yeah after the normal summer bat season ended August 15 I got shipped down to Mammoth Cave for 11 days to teach up and coming bat biologists how to capture and ID the little furry buggers. Should only have short away travel for the next long while and will be posting a lot more regularly.

If you catch those bats as easily as you find these gems I'm sure the buggers don't have much of a chance..... Another outstanding example. Kudos.

Very nice!
I really hope to find a mated pair of coins like this one, but the chances are pretty low.

Thanks! It's super fun to play in the caves, but good to be home and getting to some of the coins floating around here.

I'm sitting here pondering this one and can only wonder if this coin ended up being struck the second time by a neighboring die pair with a die cap that caused the indent?
I can't visualize it being struck by the same pair of dies both times.

Thanks for your reply on your travels TB, I love going into caves myself (well here in Arizona - we classify them as Gold and Silver mines) but still fun. I have seen tons of bats now calling them their homes.
