I also have a coin like this. And after posting on Facebook asking for info the consensus was that the coin was a normal coin. So I took it to a Coinstar to try my luck and ran it and it popped out twice, it was not accepted.
It isn't immediately giving me that plated vibe. I would subject it to a magnetic braking test and a basic specific gravity test by water submersion. He's already got the necessary scale.

to the CCF and plated. Just so you know, find some way to hold coins without touching them with bare fingers. Cloth or latex gloves work. Not that this coin is a keeper, just get in the habit of using gloves. Finger prints are forever on some coins.
