Once you've looked at enough 1982s you can tell which ones are Large Date and which ones are Small Date.
The Large Dates to me have a more pointed digit 2 in the date that is close to the coin's rim, while the 2 in the Small Date has a blunt bottom and is further away from the edge.
I recommend getting a box of pennies from your local bank - it only costs $25 and you're guaranteed to get at least a dozen or so 1982s provided it is circulated.
