Yup, gottem yesterday. Looked at both under magnification and see no defects. BUT...should I try to open the capsule for a better look? If yes, how to safely do this, Also do I risk devaluing either coin? No pics yet.

Do not open it unless you know what/how to do it safely.

I find that with rare exception, a magnifier/loupe is all you need. You can get a great look at the coin just by changing viewing and lighting angles.

I doubt the capsules would be able to hide anything bad from you. For me, there are only two reasons to open them... One is to move the coins to another holder, capsule, album, etc. The other is to confirm if suspected "damage" (or debris) is on the capsule or the coin. If you see no defects through the capsules, the coins are surely okay.

Okay, I'm taking all the good advice and leaving the capsule alone.

Here's some pics.

yep, good move! leave them in the capsule.
Even when I send coins to PCGS, they want the coins to be placed into a 2x2 flip with an item label - but I refuse to risk even that and get it scratched but I send it in the cap and let them open it.
