I found this beauty during CRH a while back, and finally had time to check it out properly. The first two images are of a strange doubling or stretching around Jefferson's eye. The next two are the standard obverse and reverse. It's difficult to photograph the coin properly due to the extreme gleam.

The final two pictures are a comparison to a circulated 1962-D nickel that is the typical faded gray color of all 60 year old nickels. It is puzzling how this other coin is so pristine. I almost thought that it had been plated, but the features are super sharp under magnification and the weight is precisely 5.00g. A few steps are visible on Monticello, which I would assume might be filled in during silver plating.

There does appear to be a bit of a halo around Jefferson and Monticello that could be a result of die polishing. I would call the coin BU, but there does seem to be a touch of wear on Jefferson's hair and a few nicks around the jawline.

I see some die flow lines on his face, so it makes me wonder if it's from Die Deterioration?

DDD is definitely a possibility. The reverse shows softness in many areas, for example, the M and last O of Monticello.

It's odd. The lettering has clear radial flow lines, but the fields are quite flat. Tonight I am going to try rotating the coin relative to the light source, and also angling the lens relative to the surface. I think DDD is a workable theory, and even if it were die polishing, that might not be possible to tell apart after 61 years.
