I was going through some coins my Grandfather left me and I noticed indentations around some of the numbers and letters on this 1920 5 cents coin. Most pronounced on the last A of Canada and the 2 in the date. What would cause this?

I'd like to see a transparent overview pic of the obv over the rev ... the marks that you mention may be clashes from his chin and beard. I can't do it on mt computer..

Thanks for the feedback.
It's not a perfect fit but with some rotation and movement down and right it gets close.
Maybe it's just my imagination and tarnish as mentioned?

Well, I think around the "A" is his beard and the stuff around the date is his collar and ornamentation
