I have tried to take some pictures of this coin and finally was able to catch the mirror effect.
It's strange, but the reverse is proof-like and the obverse is about AU 58 without any proof-like shine. What does this mean? Could it be a proof that escaped into circulation?

If you look at the picture I wrote a word on a piece of paper and held the coin next to it. Can you see the word in the reflection?

just means the Obverse die wasn't as new as the Reverse die when the coin was struck. I have a 1880-S with DMPL Obverse and no mirrors on the Reverse in my 7070 album

Does this affect value?

coins92, it's not uncommon for Morgans to have one sided mirrored finishes, if the reverse die has been replaced with a new one. A date might help to determine this. All I can tell is it's a Philly coin dated 1879 or later.

Sorry about that, the one pulled out of the safe is the Philly. Also this should not affect the price. Had both sides been mirrored, that would have jumped the price up.

Then it would be completely impossible for it to be a proof as they were minted in Philly
