Hi All,

I have what I believe is a Tanit Horse head coin, but not sure if it's real or not. The coin is in a 14K pendant setting. The coin looks to be bronze. Any help that anyone can provide in greatly appreciated.

I'll fix the spelling in the title for you.

It certainly looks like a typical Carthaginian bronze, obverse Tanit, reverse horsehead. I have one very similar to it.

We don't know what the Carthaginians called their various sizes of bronze coins; we just classify them by size. Measure the diameter in millimetres, and that's the ID. So if your coin is 20 millimetres across, then it's an "AE20". The AE20 with Tanit-and-Horsehead design is generally dated to circa 300-264 BC.

Unfortunately, proving authenticity would be difficult while it is in the bezel, and putting the coin in the bezel has probably damaged the coin, which would mean it's not worth removing it from the bezel since it's now worth more as jewellery than as a coin, even if the coin is genuine. It looks very pitted, which could be a sign of being a cast fake... or it could be a sign of a genuine coin having had corrosion removed from it.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis
