This issue was authorized by Public Law 102-281 (Section 201) [See (
https://uscode.house.gov/statutes/p...ssembled%2C)] and signed by President George W. Bush on May 13, 1992 to commemorate the World Cup Soccer Championship. The law stated coins were to be "minted and available for issue no later than January 3,1994, but shall be issued only during 1994." The event was the 15th FIFA World Cup and hosted by the United States. Brazil was the champion team with 5 wins.
This issue is a 3-coin release (proof & UNC): silver dollar , clad half dollar and $5 half eagle (although its reverse has no eagle in the design but I guess it's still called a half eagle?). All 3 coins share the same reverse design. Also available, a 2-coin and 3-coin clad half dollar and silver dollar (proof & UNC) and a 6-coin set with all 3 coins in both proof & UNC condition, packaged in a cherrywood box. There is also a Young Collectors set with a clad half dollar and a Special Edition proof clad half dollar and silver dollar. How the latter differs from the other proof 2-coin set I don't know.
I have the 2-coin Proof set but no $5 gold coin.
Mintage/Condition
Clad Half Dollar: 168,208/UNC and 609,354/Proof
Silver Dollar: 781,524/UNC and 577,090/Proof
Gold $5: 22,447/UNC and 89,614/Proof
Side Note: When I found the 201-281 on-line and scanned through it, I discovered that Section 301 addressed the Persian Gulf Medal program. That section answered some of the questions I have regarding an earlier post of mine.
