MD, but the bigger issue to me is that you may not be understanding how doubled dies work. "Close" only counts in horseshoes. A doubled die either is or it isn't. When a die is doubled, it receives impressions from the hub that are slightly out of alignment, creating a doubled effect on some or all of the design. Since the doubling is on the die itself, every single coin struck by that die will have exactly the same doubling (give or take the wear that the die undergoes over the course of its working life).
