I've been looking at reference pictures and can't figure if this is 1970S small date(high 7) or lg. dt.(low 7). I am missing something. They appear very similar to me. Which is this example? I also have to say that I have learned 4 times faster reading member posts than I could any guide book. Thank you everyone.

This one is the more common large date, as the 7 is a tad lower than the 9 and 0. Another thing to look for is the position of the inner part of the 9 in the date, as there is a minor but noticable shift between the two date positions...

Definitely a Large Date. The 0 is slightly higher than the 7. The Small Date will have the 0 level with the 7, of the date.

Always thought this was an obscure distinction.

the ends of the 9 are pointed and pointed at the middle of the 7. LD is blunt and pointed at the bottom of the 7.
