I need help identifying this 1972 penny I found. I think it is a strong candidate for the FS-104 DDO004 variety, but I am not sure. I am new to finding varieties, so a second opinion will help. Let me know if there are any other markers to look for - thanks-

That 'doubling' is going in every direction - which should not happen on a doubled die. I think it is MD.

to the CCF 50% of the 72s have master die doubling, I think that's what you have here. Not a plus for the coin.

Does not look like DDO fs104 on wexlers site, it would also help to post a reverse image. Take a look at the following link for 1972. Let us know what you think

To CCF! I think what you're seeing is Master Die Doubling. Common on the '72's. You can click on the link above my comment and view it.

Yes, it is master die doubling which is common on 1972 coins from all three mints.

zbrandman,
to CCF.
I agree with master die doubling. The fact that you noticed the doubling tells me you have an eye for error/variety hunting. Good luck, your next find might be the real deal
