Yes the copper plating could have been stripped off this cent after it left the mint and this is just the zinc core that remains.

This one is the same size as a regular penny coin.

Harbor Freight has a $10 digital scale 2lb limit and reads to 10th of a gram which is close enough. The only problem I found is if you're weighing one after the other rapidly it is inaccurate unless you hit tare to zero it every time.

If you plan on staying in the hobby buy a good scale. 0.001 grams is better than 0.01. You can get a nice one for $20. Also get a digital caliper. Your coin looks "stripped" PMD and a minor MAD.
