Bought this medal today simply because it was America themed. I do not find many U.S. centric medals in Rome so happy to add it to my collection.

It's 50 mm and 60 grams so seemingly more than a mere souvenir medal...

Thanks everyone,
@hondo, I saw that attribution, thanks for sending.
I know little about these; were these souvenir medals?
Under a loupe the detail on this medal is fantastic!

Roma, I don't really know. The NGC page does not provide much information about it:
The Louisiana Purchase Exposition and Medallic Souvenirs
https://www.ngccoin.com/news/articl...-Expo-Medal/

The H in the catalog number was assigned by Robert L. Hendershott, who published a book in 1994:
"1904 St. Louis World's Fair--the Louisiana Purchase Exposition: Mementos and Memorabilia".
He attended the Exposition as a 6 year old, and later began collecting items from it. Copies of this are scarce - online prices are $75 - $150.

Hopefully an expert on the Exposition can help us out.

Thanks @hondo. I didn't see too many sold comps but the obverse image, especially in hand, was striking enough. And... the dearth of any U.S. related medals in Rome drew me to it.

I'm curious to hear more...

I briefly discussed the medal here:

- 1904 St. Louis World's Fair French Medal

Maybe it includes some information you'll find helpful.

Thank you @commems! That is a wonderfully written piece you wrote. Not sure how I missed it. Really great description.

I wonder still though if these were sold as souvenirs, giveaways etc.
