May have been on a road with tar on it which created pits and then pits were filled with tar.

Is that the natural color of this coin? Is it attracted to a mild strength magnet?

It looks like copper to me - maybe plated?

Also, can you please properly crop your images to the edges of the coin so we see less background and more coin?
