I just ordered a Eye Clops BioniCam and plan on using it to take photos of coins and post them on CCF. I was wondering if anyone has one and if you could give me some tips on getting the best pictures with it? Any input will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Just googled it... the reviews were not impressive... "it's a toy" "zoom dial offers either 100x, 200x or 400x magnification". WAY TOO MUCH power for good coin images. "Lighting is very poor. the very small leds make any darker material impossible to see. Very hard to focus, need to turn the entire front of the housing, can't do it "on the fly"

But enough of what the naysayers have to report, please tell the forum what YOU think once you get it.

success,

my daughter has one that she got for xmas. the older version. it is very neat for getting extreme closeups of mint mark and doubling but not as easy to get good shots of the entire coin. though the newer version may be better at that.

It's an interesting little toy, and for $25 (Amazon's current price for it), I'd cheerfully spend the money.

Don't plan on getting the whole coin in one image, though - 100x is way, way too much magnification. Heck, a 5x image of a Morgan would be far larger than my 1680x1050 monitor could display at once, even if the magnifier's field of view could capture the whole thing at once.

Here's an example of a 60x image from my QX5:

That's as much as it can capture at one time, full size. You can plan on getting only a little more than half of that at one time with 100x. It should be excellent for small details, though.
