A dear friend in the UK sent me a coin he got in change. He doesn't see them often, so he decided to surprise me with it. I really appreciated the thoughtfulness. and it will become prized in my collection.

Interesting. IIRC the pre-2016 pound coins have been demonetized but can still be redeemed for the bi-metal ones at banks.
