1947 Ml 7 Canadian Nickel - Mistaken For A Dot 7 (My Bad)

So I found this Canadian nickel in Dad's collection. Researching doesn't explain why it seems to command a higher selling price than a non-dot 7. What's the deal with this coin?

Am I to assume the star after the 7 is the 'dot'?

That's not a dot, it's a maple leaf, which indicates it was struck in 1948 because new modified obverse dies were not ready til late in the year.
The dot coins have no maple leaf, instead they have a dot where the maple leaf appears.

Wow, I missed the whole boat on this one! But I see the dot in an image from the link you provided. Now I'm a little more educated. Thanks for the post.

I'd modify the subject line if it was allowed.

I think you can by just clicking the edit button in the icon bar, or you can certainy as a Mod to do it.
