Hi again, and thanks in advance for your advice.
I am fairly certain all five are from Pskov mint, and are Fyodor I Ivanovich. What I am not sure of is the variety. (KG#13?)
As far as I can tell, the Pskov are minted without a date so that would range them 1584 - 1598.
The first has a nice helmeted head and arm/hand on the spear.
14 dia.
0.66g
perhaps a KG # 134?

Any hints would be appreciated, even if it is "sorry, can't tell"
Cheers ttkoo

I agree it is Fyodor I Ivanovich from Pskov. I think KG 136 because of the horseman's crown and armour.

Thanks JohnConduitt, on all 5 coins.
I found a link http://www.learn-your-history.in.ua...mation_id=18 to a Ukraine site with some good ID info. I see from it that the Pskov minted Fyodor I's have 7 reverse options and 4 obverse. I don't know yet how this relates to a KG reference, or even in fact what a KG reference is.... can you possibly enlighten me on that?

Cheers again for your reply

KG is an abbreviation of Kleshchinov-Grishin, a Russian catalog of post-1533 wire coins that lists them (effectively) by die pair. (Apparently wire coin dies were probably hubbed in that period, so this really means by hub pair.)

There were usually only a few obverse and reverse dies/hubs for each mint and ruler, but they are combined with each other in many possible options.

There used to be a Russian website that neatly provided all the KG types with pictures, but apparently most of the pictures went offline a few months ago, and I'm not yet sure if they would ever return. It used to be my favorite source for identifying wire money.
A lot of the Numista pages for wire money types copied their pictures from there (with links), so you can consult Numista, I guess? But AFAIK that's not complete.

Your Ukrainian link doesn't work - it was copied directly from a compressed version with the middle replaced by an ellipsis. Do you have the full link?

@january1may, thanks very much for the KG info, another page of this hobby learnt! That will help me immensely.

The link on that topic to the Ukraine website is

h t t p://www.learn-your-history.in.ua/index.php?route=information/information&information_id=18
(I put spaces in h t t p : so the whole link would show here)

I got the link from a topic on Russian kopeks in the World of Coins website
h t t p ://www.worldofcoins.eu/forum/index.php/topic,56523.0.html

I have included the section of the chart relating to Fyodor and the Pskov mint

Cheers

January1may got there before me...

I found Kleshchinov-Grishin as downloadable pdfs somewhere. There are several - 1533-1617, 1616-1645, 1645-1696, 1696-1717. It has all the images found on the website that seemed to go offline after the Ukraine invasion https://silver-copeck.ru/index.html which seems like the website above.

Hey thanks again John, all of this is a great help to me.
I went from knowing nothing of the kopeks, to still knowing nothing, but I now have the information to learn.

Cheers
