Here's a fun coin I found at the show.
Apparently for Colombia in the 50s-70s, such wild repunchings were more common than not. Still, it's a very entertaining piece because not only were the digits repunched, but they used several different punch styles! Here's a breakdown of the photo below:

The 1 digit
was punched with a large, sans-serif numeral over a shorter, serif numeral--check out the flare on the base of the underlying 1!

The 9 digit was punched at least 3 times! There's evidence of a digit east, then an underlying 9 with a flatter bottom stroke was finished with a 9 where the stroke curls upward. At least 2 digit styles again.

On the 7, there's a straight downstroke underneath a more curved 7 digit. Any ideas why the coin field is depressed around this digit?

The 0 is a bit lower, but at least it's completely on the die!
I've seen a few coins where several digits run off the edge.
There are traces of a second 0 NW of the top digit.

Do you suppose the mint in Bogota was very concerned about the date on these coins?
But thank you Colombia for making repunched dates so intriguing!

Posts like these make me wish my coin collection wasn't so crap That's a great find I have only one coin of this type, a 1963. I've attached photos. What do you think it is, Kurt?

You can see something at the bottom of the 1, of the 9, and of course the connections between 1 and 9 (the line ends in the loop of the 9, what is visible in the last photo), 9 and 6.

DL, lol...you also have some nice coins after all.
On your 1963, I see that too--the 1 and 9 are repunched slightly south, and I also see the bottom curves of maybe 96 halfway up in 196--plus there's a straight mark inside the top loops of both 9 and 6. That's a cool find too!
I'm going to the show again today, so I'll see if there any more...

Thanks I wouldn't have noticed it if you hadn't posted yours.

Maybe you can get one like this:

That's a really good one! I especially like the upside-down 1.
I found two more (different ones) today...I'll post pics later

Yes, great Liberty!
I have to admit, I don't understand Colombia's practices--Mexico's rpds and overdates are subtle by comparison.
Do you suppose the dot above the 5 is the trace of a prior digit? I don't know why a 1 would be punched there, but after all...this is Colombia.
