All 1947 nickels (P,D,S) have hub doubling on the right serif of the first T in Trust. Most seem to have doubling on the top serif of the S in Trust, and also the left serif of the T in Liberty.

According to the Variety Vista obverse design guide for Jefferson nickels, that was fixed in 1948.

Yesterday, I was looking at a 1949 nickel, and the doubling seems to have reappeared. I checked the PCGS images catalog, and sure enough, there seem to be many nickels with visible split serifs on those letters. This specific nickel displays the doubling particularly well:

So does anyone know why this happened at the U.S. Mint? It seems like the problem was corrected at the hub level, but then for some unknown reason, they returned to the 1947 hub for 1949?

From the 1949 nickel on my desk:

Very interesting Brandmeister! You might want to talk to Tanman2001 about this.

That's a good suggestion, Errers.

I checked some more PCGS pages last night, the S and T-Liberty doubling still seems to exist in 1950 and 1951, too.
