butterfingER, I believe you are correct that this is caused by a Grease Filled Die. Being a high point on the coin, it's a deeper recess on the die. And it's not consistent with the wear (or lack thereof) on the rest of the coin. I've seen this many times on bicentennial quarters although I haven't kept them. I did find one in my tub of '76s.
