Hi,

While doing some spring cleaning I came across several circulated 1996 $50 notes I put aside back when I was in my note noodling phase. Renniks lists them as being worth around double the face value. Is anyone really going to pay that much for them or should I just use them the next time I play the pokies?

Thanks

According to RBA' s official inflation calculator (which tax agents use),
the buying power of 1996 $50 Note will only buy $26.50 worth of goods and services in 2022., in terms of 1996 dollar values.
Nearing the end 2023, with current inflation rate of about 5%, the buying power has just dropped to about $25.20. and continuing to head south.

According to RBA inflation calculator, average inflation rate 1996 - 2022 is 2.5 %, year on year.

If you manage to sell 1996 crisp flat uncirculated $50 Notes at $100 each, net of shipping charges and ebay fees, you may? just break even.
They would have to have a catalog value significantly higher than $100 each, to attract an interested buyer.
